The roundabout at the junction of Woodcote Road with Woodmansterne Lane and Woodcote Green makes road users feel safer than they did with previous junction arrangement.
One problem, though, has been the parking of vans and cars actually on the roundabout, outside the corner shop, usually with two wheels on the pavement. This was dangerous and illegal but rarely if ever resulted in prosecution. Following pressure from WGRA, Sutton Council recently had bollards put in place to deter such parking. As you can see, the middle bollard is set back, presumably to allow prams and wheelchairs to cross the road.
There was an occasion when criminals backed a van up to the door of the shop, in order to commit a robbery. These bollards should prevent an exact repeat of this crime.
WGRA is grateful to the council for this innovative solution.
